Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset my master password?

Your master password cannot be reset or recovered — this is by design for security. If you forget it, you will need to delete the vault and recreate it. Make sure you write down your master password and store it somewhere safe.

Where is my data stored?

All your credentials are stored locally on your Mac in an encrypted vault. Nothing is uploaded to any server. The app works entirely offline.

Can I sync my passwords between devices?

Not yet. Audio Passwd Manager is designed to be local-only for maximum privacy. Cloud sync may be added in a future update as an opt-in feature with end-to-end encryption.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

Your encrypted vault file remains on disk. To fully remove your data, delete the vault file manually from the app's data directory. Uninstalling does not automatically delete your credentials.

Is there an iOS or Android version?

Currently macOS only. iOS and iPadOS versions are planned. Subscribe to updates at realityoptimizer.app.

How is the vault encrypted?

The vault uses AES-256 encryption with keys derived from your master password via PBKDF2 key stretching. Your master password never leaves your device and is never stored in plain text.

Troubleshooting

🔐 App won't unlock

Make sure Caps Lock is off. The master password is case-sensitive. If you recently changed your password, try the previous one. If all else fails, you may need to reset the vault (data will be lost).

🎙️ Voice recognition not working

Check that your microphone is enabled in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. The app needs microphone access to match your voice phrase. If the issue persists, restart the app or re-record your voice phrase in settings.

💾 Vault file missing after macOS update

macOS updates sometimes reset app container permissions. Check the app's data directory. If the vault is truly gone and you have no backup, the data is unrecoverable. We recommend occasional Time Machine backups.

🐌 App feels slow

With hundreds of credentials, the vault may take a moment to decrypt. This is normal — the encryption is intentionally computationally expensive to prevent brute-force attacks. Close other apps to free up RAM.
